Sarah Winckless, Olympic Bronze Medalist and double World Champion, was guest speaker at the Year 11 Record of Achievement Presentation

This award (Bronze, Silver or Gold) is given for achieving a personal challenge, for doing voluntary work in or out of school and work experience.  We are very proud of the year group; nearly 70 students had the Gold Award presented by the Mayor of Richmond, Councillor Clare Head.

We welcome students and teachers from our Global Partnership School in Kenya, Mr Makevo (Deputy Headteacher), Mr Ibraham (teacher of RE) and Gladys and Binto, Form 2 and 3 students.

 They brought us a hand dyed and woven wall handing.

Year 7 and Year 8 students made Easter Bonnets for an event on the last day of term.

 

Waldegrave was part of a national BBC School News Report Day. The twenty one students in the team worked hard to create their news report including stories such as: the Swiss coach crash; pupils speak out; Waldegrave sixth form and Mrs Michell's charity bike ride.

Lord Haskel, life peer and Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords, visited Year 11 students to talk about the work and role of the House of Lords. This was followed by a question and answer session on various aspects of the parliamentary process and life at Westminster generally.

Students in year 11 used their creative skills and teamwork to make their own costumes.

The result was a 2-0 victory for the staff team over a valiant Year 11 side. Goals from Shiels and Byrne sealed the victory.

106 students took part in the 2011 Waldegrave Moves Dance Show

 

Waldegrave School is 30
Waldegrave opened in 1980 so we celebrated our 30th birthday on Friday 10 December 2010. Former students and staff were welcomed to school by current students and staff.  They had tours of the school and a birthday cake.  Current students enjoyed an assembly from Mrs Colclough, who has worked at the school since it opened in 1980.  Her presentation took students on a journey through the changing fashions and developments of the school.


November 2010 - Remembrance Day

We were honoured that Bill Allen could join us for our Remembrance Day service at the school on Thursday. Bill served in the Navy in the second World War and brought the medals he earned to show students. We were also joined by other guests for an uplifting service of Remembrance. Year 11 students led events to raise funds for the charity “Help for Heroes”.


October 2010 - Jack Petchey Foundation Awards

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Our award winning students from 2009-2010 and their parents attended the annual Jack Petchey Achievement Awards presentation evening for the London Boroughs of Richmond and Kingston at Richmond Theatre this week. The students have been nominated for making an outstanding contribution to the life of the school or for overcoming a personal challenge and were presented with their medals by the Mayor of Richmond, Councillor David Marlow.

October 2010 - National Rotary "Young Chef" Competition

Congratulations to all nine students who took part in the local round of this competition, which was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Twickenham upon Thames.  The winners were presented with their trophy and certificates by the Deputy Mayor of Richmond, Councillor Rita Palmer, and will go on to the regional round in February.


Pounds for Pakistan - September 2010

Our "Pounds for Pakistain" mufti day and activities has raised over £1900 for the Pakistan flood victims.  Students came to school dressed in their house colours and organised events which included a human fruit machine, throwing wet sponges at teachers, an Alice in Wonderland picture board and a balloon popping raffle.
