ICT - Information and Communications Technology
All girls have discrete ICT lessons, in all years, and are prepared for a recognised qualification in ICT. Students are also encouraged to use their ICT skills in all subject areas whenever possible. All curriculum areas incorporate ICT within their Scheme of Work for all year groups.
Key Stage 3
Each student in years 7, 8 and 9 has one lesson per week to explore major applications and usage of ICT found in the 'real' world. Using the new KS3 National Strategy materials for ICT pupils develop their knowledge of data handling, text and graphics, modelling, control and communication. Some Year 9 pupils follow the AQA ICT GCSE Short Course.
Key Stage 4
ICT At present all students in years 10 and 11 embark on the AQA ICT GCSE Short Course. The course includes a written examination and a board set assignment that constitutes 60% of their final mark.
ICT Rooms
We have 6 ‘Networked’ rooms all with broadband Internet access. All rooms are available for other subjects when not being used for ICT lessons. There are also several smaller clusters around the school, i.e. in History, Modern Foreign Languages and the Individual Learning Department. In addition, all our teaching rooms have interactive whiteboards and projectors.
Out of Lessons
The ICT rooms are open, with supervision, at lunchtime and after school. Students are able to reinforce their learning, use the facilities available for research, or to complete homework or coursework.
