Drama

Drama is a creative, stimulating and enjoyable subject which is popular as a GCSE option.  The skills that students acquire through drama lessons include:

  • collaborative skills
  • the ability to work with others productively and creatively
  • communication skills – the ability to form ideas, communicate them clearly and consider and discuss issues with thought and depth
  • The opportunity to use drama to communicate meaningfully to an audience

The GCSE Edexcel drama course uses a variety of stimuli such as a photograph, poem, painting, play-text, or a piece of music .  The students use different dramatic techniques to explore and convey meaning, and extend their performance skills through exercise and performance.

In February 2012 our production was "Alice".Well done to the cast and crew who have worked so amazingly hard on this project.   A large number of staff were involved in ensuring the show ran smoothly; make-up, seating, back stage, special effects, costume, props, scenery, displays and ticket sales and front of house.   Special thanks go to Ms Tomasso, Ms Snelling, Ms Moore and Ms Colclough for directing and producing a show of such high quality and to the caretaking team for their endless patience.  Photographs from the show can be purchased from Vibe Photography www.vibephotography.co.uk. A DVD can also be purchased from Wizard Video Productions, order forms available from school reception.

Cautionary Tales, our 2010 production, was and based on a collection of grisly bedtime stories from the mid-19th century in which misbehaving children receive gruesome punishments. It succeeded in being both silly and spookily sinister, a mixed thrill that was both bizarre and surreal.
