Duke of Edinburgh Award
At Waldegrave we are pleased to offer girls the opportunity to complete either Silver or Bronze Award.
The Award takes a minimum of 6 months to a year to complete and aims to encourage service to the community, development of practical skills, participation in physical activity, and a spirit of adventure. It consists of 4 sections: expeditions, physical recreation, skills, and service.
Expedition training is held at school and enables participants to become familiar with the challenges they face in the outdoors. It covers countryside access code, topographic map use including compasses and bearings, first aid, and risk assessment, route-cards and planning, campcraft including nutrition, and equipment use (including trangia stoves, tents ...).
Most importantly, the Duke of Edinburgh Award provides our girls with the opportunity to broaden their horizons, meet their personal challenges, and be recognised for the great work that many of them already do!
