Design & Technology

Design & Technology is about designing and making things, understanding how things work and how they are made.  At Waldegrave we have a strong team of specialist teachers who work in four different areas:

  • Food
  • Textiles
  • Product Design
  • Graphic Products

Key Stage 3

All girls study D&T as follows:

Year 7 -  All students study Product Design / Graphics for one lesson per week and Food / Textiles for one lesson per week.  Students will cover the following topics:

  • Laser cut file divider
  • Maze puzzle project
  • Understanding Materials Health and Safety
  • Design & make a small bago
  • Planning and preparing healthy meals  

 

Year 8  - All students study Product Design / Graphics one lesson per week for half the year and Food / Textiles for the other half of the year                                                

  • Exploring Materials
  • Cam Toy (Laser cut figure)
  • Using control for security
  • Personal light source key ring
  • Design and make a cushion
  • Planning and preparing healthy meals

Year 9    All students study Product Design / Graphics one lesson per week for half the year and Food / Textiles for the other half.

  • Designing for markets
  • Ethical and environmental issues
  • Planning and preparing healthy meals 

Key Stage 4  

 In KS4 Design & Technology is an optional GCSE.  Students can choose from the following:  

  • GCSE AQA Design & Technology:    Graphic Products
  • GCSE AQA Design & Technology:    Product Design
  • GCSE AQA Design & Technology:    Textiles Technology
  • GCSE AQA Design & Technology:    Food Technology
